The Bridal Mini Dress, Try Out this Bridalwear Trend for Fun and Freshness

The mini dress is a silhouette we are all well used to in our day-to-day wardrobe, but perhaps not one that is always first considered when exploring styles for a wedding dress. At Something Borrowed we know that it isn’t for every bride, but we can’t ignore the boost in popularity this dress style is seeing in the bridalwear scene. With celebrities such as Lily Allen wearing a classic inspired mini dress to Kourtney Kardashian rocking the latest trend of a micro mini dress, we really do think that every bride should be at least trying on a mini dress in their home try-on session – they add so much fun to a bridal look, with a side of rebellion that has its roots set in British fashion history since the sixties.

Although there are many nods to the mini skirt throughout fashion history, many accredit it to the infamous Mary Quant. Mary was a trailblazer within the fashion world of the 1960’s opening the renowned boutique Bazaar, on King’s Road in Chelsea. She was at the centre of the youth culture revolution that was happening at that time and captured the rebellious side of young women by introducing the mini skirt, named after her favourite car the iconic British Mini.

The mini skirt has since been adopted, redesigned, and played with up and down the catwalks, to the streets. One early evolution of it was the mini dress, where the hem of dresses was raised to replicate the mini skirt and gave women that unforgettable sixties style. In recent years, the mini dress has seen a revival. Particularly, post-pandemic, a new variation, the micro mini skirt was showcased by designers such as Miu Miu on the runway. This reminder of the show-stopping energy such a design can have has brought the mini dress back into the limelight within the bridal world.

Not to ignore an upcoming trend, especially one that widens our offer to our individual and independent brides-to-be, at Something Borrowed we are pleased to stock an array of carefully curated mini dresses that are the perfect balance of fun, flirt and sophistication. Our favourite pieces hitting this look are the Paper to Lace Mackenzie dress, a cute short wedding dress with puffed netted sleeves, the Hello Bride Flora Party dress with its ruffle detailing and the Oui the Label Belle dress with oversized puff sleeves but don’t take our word for it, try them on for yourself and see how magical they make you feel. Perhaps one of the mini dresses we offer will be your all-day dress, or maybe you will decide a change of outfit for a bit more freedom and freshness for the evening party is more your thing.

There is no denying that the mini dress is steeped in history, a truly iconic look that recognises the wearer’s character and personality.
